The Automated Radiation Measurements for Aerospace Safety (ARMAS) program has been developed with NASA funding. It offers precise, real-time radiation monitoring and awareness of radiation and space weather globally up to an altitude of 100 km.
The ARMAS app, a component of this initiative, fulfills two main functions:
- It interfaces with and manages the 7th generation ARMAS Flight Module (FM7) radiation detector (available for separate purchase) to deliver the most accurate real-time radiation dose and dose rates for use in aircraft and suborbital vehicles. The detector is designed to detect radiation from various sources such as heavy ions, alphas, protons, neutrons, electrons, and gamma-rays.
- It enhances radiation awareness by incorporating real-time space weather data collected from numerous ground- and space-based systems. This feature presents all essential information concerning radiation processes without the necessity of acquiring the FM7 detector.
Recognized as the benchmark in real-time radiation monitoring and awareness, ARMAS is employed by professional pilots, business travelers, and commercial space tourists. The program is conceptualized and managed by Space Environment Technologies, a specialist in space weather and an official NOAA "Weather Ready Nation" Ambassador.
